Pinhole Check In #3
So, this project was a long and somewhat disappointing one. I was truly excited at first, and I thought it was so cool that I would be making my first pinhole camera. I thought it was even cooler that you can get actual images from this process. It was going to be a piece of cake, right? Well, from the very start I was running into issues, mainly with the construction of my pinhole camera. For me, it was always the actual pinhole where something went wrong. At first, I discovered that my first few pinhole images didn't come out because a piece of the tape was actually obstructing the hole from the inside. I genuinely couldn't tell from looking at it through the outside so that was a rude awakening. And then, after I redid the entire hole part, I discovered that as I was taking my last few, the tape that I used to cover the pinhole between images had actually started tearing and messing up the hole.... yet again. I missed the second drop off date so of course I had no idea that this was happening until I happened to see the hole getting bigger. Honestly, I think these issues were simple logistics issues that could have been fixed easily perhaps if we were having class in person and I could immediately ask someone for help or show them the camera as I was making it. The second, but less important issue was my ambitions for my project idea. I had really wanted to focus on the LSU lakes and capture nature in all its grandeur. But of course that would be a very tiring and long process unless I happened to live right on the lakes, which I don't. So, I changed my idea to focus on nature in general around campus. Turns out that still wasn't the best idea considering there's next to no nature found directly by my apartment so it still required walking/driving all around campus. As a last resort, I had attempted to shift my project to be focused around documenting personal belongings, things that I can photograph in my actual apartment. Pair all of this with the fact that I had limited paper and what I ordered wasn't going to arrive in time, and this project was honestly somewhat of a disaster. It's truly unfortunate, but I think I will definitely attempt the pinhole process again someday.
